Meet Alfalfa

In 2021, we were contacted by an animal rehab facility looking to place a young male fox. His name was Alfalfa. He was injured after his front right leg was caught in a trap. Unfortunately, his leg did need to be partially amputated so he could not be released back into the wild. The rehab facility took great care of Alfalfa but knew he needed to find a home with more space and closer to nature.

Wild Paws volunteers worked quickly to build a temporary space next to our other resident fox, Finneas. The thought was to introduce the pair after an initial ‘get to know you’ period. It was clear from the start that both foxes were very interested in the other. When the day came for introduction, the two were ready and made fast friends.

Alfalfa may be missing a part of his leg, but this does not deter him from being a feisty fox. Along with all the horseplay with Finneas, Alfalfa enjoys trying out the new enrichment and toys the animal care volunteers bring in. We are so happy to provide Alfalfa with this chance to live as close to the wild as possible and glad he and Finneas are such good pals.

Finneas and Alfalfa moved into their permanent habitat in 2023. It was a smooth transition for them, and they are living their lives together as close to nature as possible here at Wild Paws.
