Meet Finneas
We were first contacted in mid-2020 regarding a young fox, just a few months old, found in critical condition after a collision with a car. A nature center in Michigan worked tirelessly to heal the young fox’s injuries but realized he was unable to fully recover his vision. This discovery unfortunately left the fox unable to be released back into the wild and needed a permanent home.
After working with the nature center for several months, the young fox finally made his way to Wisconsin to become Wild Paws’ first resident. Volunteers worked hard to build a temporary habitat for him to become acclimated to his surroundings and a veterinary procedure was scheduled to determine the full extent of his vision loss. Another important step in his journey was getting a name. After a contest to decide the top three names, he was presented with the options on enrichment items and chose Finneas.
Today, Finneas is doing great. His vision isn’t perfect, but he gets around just fine and has no problem finding new enrichment offered. He also has a great friend in another fox, Alfalfa. The two are often seen rumbling and tumbling at night, playing and pouncing with the many toys, or simply snuggled up on a sunny day.
Finneas and Alfalfa moved into their permanent habitat in 2023. It was a smooth transition for them, and they are living their lives together as close to nature as possible here at Wild Paws.
Read about his homecoming here. We were more than happy to have him be our first rescued resident and offer him a home for life!
