Fab 4 Roomies!
Life is better together!
When we rescued the Fab 4 foxes in September 2023, our hope was that at some point the two pairs could all live in the same space. Obviously this would mean being able to build one permanent habitat versus having to build two, at double the cost. In their acclimation habitat they first had shared walls, and we traded which pair was allowed into the central space so they could all get used to each other’s smells even more quickly.
They played alongside the shared walls for a few months and it was decided it was time to try introductions. When we opened the doors between areas, introductions went well.
There is obviously an adjustment period, for all of them, however Coconut and Aurora were besties immediately. Midnight was the only one who seemed to be a bit overwhelmed at first, but is adjusting quickly. Flash is just excited about everything, and races back and forth between the three spaces day and night, as well as try to get into everyone else’s business, in typical Flash style.

We are very happy that all four of them are now all living in the shared space together. This has created some interesting interactions, especially during feeding and enrichment times. They are quite playful, and trade off who to chase, who to rest with, who to do some “dancing” with.
We are in process of mapping the area for their permanent habitat. Next steps will be to clear the brush and hire a fencing company to install the poles and cross-bars. The goal is to complete the habitat as soon as we can so they will have more space to run and play around in. This space will need an underground chainlink fence barrier and appropriate spaces for them to be able to dig safely as we built for the original foxes, Finneas and Alfalfa. They are climbers, so this habitat will also have a roof as extra safety precaution.
We will continue to share our progress on the new habitat, and of course photos and videos of their antics.
